Ursa Minor

Ursa Minor is the constellation of the North hemisphere of the sky situated near the Birth Pole of galaxy. It takes the area of about 255o and contains 40 stars that can be seen with the necked eye.
Nowadays this constellation has the North Pole of the galaxy and is situated at the distance of over 1° from the pole star. Probably this constellation was discovered by Phoenicians as useful for sailors.
The brightest stars of the constellation are the pole star and Kohab. Kohab played an important role for Arabs as they considered it to be the pole star that is reflected in the Arab denomination of the star that meant "the north star" in translation from Arabic.
The asterism called "the little ladle" makes the characteristic form of the ladle in the sky. It reminds the ladle of Ursa Major. It really follows the outlines of the ladle and is always situated near the Ursa Major and its ladle. Two extreme points of the constellation Kohab and Pherkad are the asterism "the Pole guarders".
According to Greek myths Arcad that was the son of Zeus was turned into constellation. According to another variant one of the friends of Calisto was turned into this constellation. This constellation is also connected with the story of Zeus birth. The mother of Zeus gave him to two nymphs to save him from his father Chronos who was eating all his children. And later Zeus put these nymphs to the sky to thank them for bringing him up.
